On 10 July 2025, Fundação Wiwanana took part in an important strategic dialogue convened by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Dr. Catherrine Sozi, at the Catholic University of Mozambique (UCM) in Pemba. Represented by Carlos Manjate, the organization was among over 60 local and national NGOs contributing to discussions aimed at reshaping the humanitarian landscape in Mozambique.
This gathering formed part of the broader Humanitarian Reset agenda, designed to encourage stronger inclusion of local actors in shaping humanitarian coordination and leadership structures.
One of the central elements of the meeting was the presentation of the proposed Mozambique Local Humanitarian Coordination Platform (MLHCP)—a locally driven model created through broad-based consultations across provinces. The platform seeks to create more balanced access to humanitarian resources and ensure meaningful representation of L/NNGOs in coordination and decision-making spaces.
In his remarks, Carlos Manjate highlighted the critical role that local institutions like Fundação Wiwanana play in crisis-affected areas, emphasizing that sustainable humanitarian impact must begin with empowering communities and the organizations that serve them.
The session concluded with a unified call to move forward with the platform’s validation process, aiming for its formal recognition as a legitimate coordination mechanism representing local humanitarian voices in Mozambique.
